Become a Jr. scientist and Mentor
Our mentorship programs are offered for semesters at a time, Fall, Spring, and the busiest time, Summer.
Expectations:
Youth will fill a variety of roles from beach cleanups at a beach within vicinity of their community. Applicants must be 12-17 years old.
Applications accepted year round with all trainings needing completed prior to work beginning. Meaning if summer is your choice, sea turtle trainings and summer eco camp preparation must be completed in Spring.

Summer Camp Mentors:
In order to grow confidence, leadership, marine science experiences, and communication skills, we ask our summer camp mentors to assume the following roles:
There are countless benefits to becoming a volunteer with us. Many students are able to meet the community service requirement for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship (guidance office at your school can help with this or contact us).
Students can also gain credit from their volunteer hours for school credit. Valuable skills for a variety of careers can be obtained through this opportunity as well as making new friends, earning potential employment references, gaining research and work experience, and feeling a sense of confidence in oneself are just a few more reasons to apply.

Roles:
- Youth need to choose 1 day per month to perform a beach cleanup at a selected beach site which can be coordinated as a group.
- Educational outreach at tabled events- minimum 1 event per semester
- Raising funds for conservation and Educational Programs
- Assisting staff at research and educational encounters
- Engaging guests during activities
- Assisting with spring and summer camps
- Assist with at least 1 guided monthly excursion for explorations unless participating in summer eco camp
Summer Camp Mentors:
In order to grow confidence, leadership, marine science experiences, and communication skills, we ask our summer camp mentors to assume the following roles:
- Summer camp mentors must attend 1 day per week of summer camp and 1 entire week of camp as an attendee
- Table 1 event per semester with an educational hand on component.
- Provide assistance of 1 lab development and implementation as the lead during 3/4 weeks of summer camp season minimum.
- Choose 1 day per month to perform a beach cleanup at a selected beach site which can be coordinated as a group.
- Assist with 1 citizen science project in the local community (planting mangroves, growing propagules, seagrass deployment, oyster beds/reefs etc.)
- Expectations are to help younger campers and grow in experiential learning about marine ecosystems.
